Annapolis County Chronicles is an independent project dedicated to preserving society columns from early 20th-century local newspapers.

Week by week, these columns recorded the small but meaningful details of everyday life — who was visiting, who was ill, who celebrated a milestone, and community events and organizations.

On this site, you’ll find carefully transcribed and searchable society news that I hope will be help to local and family historians and anyone curious about the people that were once part of Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.

Currently work is focused on the years 1914-1919, with the goal of expanding to other years over time.

Getting Started

If you’re looking for a person or family:

  • Search Names to look for a specific surname or given name
  • Browse by Community to see which towns or areas are currently included

Each transcription includes the newspaper name, date, and community to help you verify what you find.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Verbatim transcriptions of newspaper society columns
  • Coverage organized by community
  • A growing name index to support genealogical research (coming soon)

New material is added as time and sources allow. Coverage varies by community, and not all years are complete.

About This Project

The site does not attempt to tell a single, complete story of Annapolis County. Instead, it provides raw material—carefully transcribed and clearly cited—that you can use to build your own understanding of people, families, and communities.
